What to Expect When Getting a Root Canal
Root canals have a fairly negative reputation. In actuality that bad reputation is ill-earned. Here is what you can actually expect to happen when you need a root canal.
Before the procedure takes place, you will be given an anesthetic, meaning you will not feel any discomfort throughout the process. Next, the dentist will drill a hole in the infected tooth. The infected pulp inside the tooth gets removed, so you do not have to worry about it spreading to other teeth. Once it has all been taken out, the interior of the tooth will be cleaned and filled with a special material. You will most likely need a crown placed over this tooth to make it strong again.
Once it is done, your dentist will provide you with aftercare instructions. They will involve sticking with softer foods for the first couple of days. A little discomfort is to be expected afterward, so it will be recommended you take pain relievers for several days following the procedure. Your dentist may also prescribe antibiotics.
After a root canal, you will feel so much better knowing the infection in your tooth is eliminated. You can learn more about getting a root canal by calling Burgess Dental.
